Michelle Segal
Michelle Segal is a Tempe, Arizona-based artist and founder of Little Black Dog Press, where she creates limited-edition handmade artist's books.
Artist statement
Artist's books give me the freedom to tell stories in ways that traditional books cannot. Every story begins with an idea, a place, or an experience. From there, I develop a structure that allows the story to unfold through the act of opening, exploring, and discovering.
Each story determines its own structure. My role is to find the form that allows that story to be experienced rather than simply read.
Education
Arizona State University / Pyracantha Press with John Risseeuw and Dan Mayer. Additional studies include courses at Laguna Gloria Art School in Austin, Scottsdale Artists' School, and community college art programs in Massachusetts, Virginia, and Arizona.

Little Black Dog Press
The press is the imprint under which Segal publishes her handmade artist's books. The name comes from her little black schnauzer, a small studio companion and a lasting part of the press's identity.
